Kat's Kloset Klassic Vinyl

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Monday, June 29, 2020, In : SiriusXM

Been broadcasting from my daughter's closet for about four months now due to the COVID19 pandemic. All SiriusXM DJs are currently working from home. Yes, I miss broadcasting from our regular studio in the heart of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But I do love the 10 step "commute" to work now, and the freedom to wear anything. And I mean ANYTHING.
So, this weekend I channeled Hugh Hefner and went to work in cheetah print silk pajamas.
Hey, we all have our ways of getting through this crazy tim...

Broadcasting From My Daughter's Closet

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Sunday, May 31, 2020, In : SiriusXM

"Hey, it's Katherine Boyd broadcasting from my daughter's closet."
Yes, it's true. No, it's not a gimmick. Really am broadcasting from my daughter's tiny bedroom closet.
In March, SiriusXM sent all its on air hosts laptops and mics so they could broadcast from home during the COVID19 pandemic. We each then had to create a "studio" space in our homes or apartments. It had to be a space that's quiet and insulated to limit echoes.
Some fellow SiriusXM hosts, like Howard Stern, built studios in th...

We Interrupt This Program...

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, In : SiriusXM

Dear Listeners: I won't be rockin' with you for a few weeks because Classic Vinyl is TEMPORARILY changing to Eagles Radio May 2 & 3 and then to Rolling Stones Radio starting May 8th for a limited time.
It's to promote the new stations which SiriusXM just added to its streaming services.
Miss you & can't wait to rock again with you soon.
Rock on!

Coming Out Of The Closet

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, In : SiriusXM

Boy, this is an unusual time. We're all doing our part to end the COVID19 pandemic. Some of you are on the frontlines working to save lives, others working tirelessly to keep the supply chain going, and then there are the rest of us who are doing our part by just staying home.
Hence, why I've been broadcasting from my daughter's tiny closet for the past few weeks.
Sure, it's not as grand as our state-of-the-art studio in the heart of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but it's cozy.
And at least I...

To Everything There Is A Season

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Sunday, September 15, 2019, In : SiriusXM

September in Cleveland is heavenly.
Daytime temps in the 70s. At night it dips into the 60s.
Sunshine is abundant. Monarch butterflies decorate the breezes as they migrate south from Canada to Mexico.

September skies are spectacular. Clear & blue one day. Cloudy & brooding the next.
The brooding skies make for great photos.
When I left the Rock Hall tonight after a great day of playing classic rock on SiriusXM Classic Vinyl, the sky's beauty made me stop, look & listen.
The season is changing.

50th Anniversary of Woodstock

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Monday, August 26, 2019, In : SiriusXM

Woodstock was a pivotal weekend in rock & roll history.
A half-million people converged on Yasgur's Farm in tiny Bethel, NY, for a weekend of Peace, Love and Music. Most of them were teenagers, or barely in their 20s.
Despite a ton of rain, lack of food, and not enough bathrooms, the miracle of Woodstock is that it all stayed amazingly calm.
Instead of anger & violence, there was peace & love.
And music of course! World-changing music.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, all weekend l...

No More Mrs. Nice Guy

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Monday, August 26, 2019, In : SiriusXM

Alice Cooper changed the world of rock and roll.
When he came on the scene in the '60s, he was scary! Smeared black eye make-up. Sinister grin. Rumors he killed a chicken live on stage!
He was evil incarnate.
Or so he lead the public to believe.
In reality, he's a down to earth kid from Detroit who was propelled to rock stardom with catchy tunes, hard work and a really creative manager.
And he's one of the nicest rock stars I've ever met.
So when the Rock Hall decided to hold an Alice Cooper Fan A...

A Whiter Shade Of Pale

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, In : SiriusXM

Every time I walk into work at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I am filled with awe.
This building, and playing the music it celebrates, gives me so much joy.
Sure as hell didn't earn this blessing, but I savor every single moment.
Thanks so much for rockin' with me on SiriusXM Classic Vinyl each weekend.
Rock on!

New Rock Hall Studio Is Open!

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Monday, June 3, 2019, In : SiriusXM

What a thrill. Honored to be the first DJ to broadcast from the new studio in the heart of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The studio is stunning. Sleek, cool & state-of-the-art.
You can even change the lighting colors. Which I do. Every show.
Remember, you are invited to stop by anytime to check out the new studio. It's on the main exhibit floor. You'll see it to your right when you come down the escalator.
Come see me in action every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm ET.
Till then #rockon!...

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Sunday, March 24, 2019, In : SiriusXM

It's been two years. TWO YEARS! Since I joined SiriusXM Classic Vinyl as weekend host.
How's that possible?
And I've loved & cherished every single day with you.
Thanks for putting up with me and my growing pains.
Leaving hard news journalism after 20+ years to become a classic rock DJ was a big switch.
In just a few months I went from reporting on the 2016 Presidential Election for NPR to hosting a classic rock show.
From full-on stress to full-on bliss.

Slowly I'm morphing from who I always thoug...

Off To Yale!

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Sunday, June 10, 2018, In : SiriusXM

Gosh, I love to tell a good story.
Been working at it for 30+ years now.
During that time I've worked with some of the best in the broadcasting biz.
And some of the worst. Ew.
Learned from them what to do, and what not to do.
My favorite mentors had a zeal for life. And a voracious need to keep learning.
Me too.
That's why I applied to Yale University's storyteller program "Thread at Yale."
And holy mackerel, they accepted me.
So, it's off to New Haven, Connecticut, to learn from some of the best s...

Rock Hall Induction 2018

Posted by Katherine Boyd on Saturday, March 10, 2018, In : SiriusXM

Crazy that it's been a year now since I joined SiriusXM Classic Vinyl as weekend DJ.
It flew by!
The first few weeks I trained under the legendary DJ Dusty Street. Not only is she smart, witty and cool, she's really sweet too. A one of a kind lady. Still can't believe I work with her!

Every time I walk into work, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a big ole grin spreads across my face & my heart fills with joy. "I work here!" I scream inside. "I work here!"

The building is stunning and it's filled...
